What About The Spice Girls?

The Spice Girls were rubbish, really, weren’t they? I mean, even if you used to love them and you collected all their merchandize, you have to admit that the name alone is bad enough (I tend to think of Old Spice, the popular established deodorant-making brand whenever I see someone who looks like Mel B) but come on, the music was pants too. But one of their songs was actually quite good I thought–Not because of the musical quality, of course, but because of the lyrics–When two become one, or something. Yep. They really had a point with that. How do the Spice Girls fit in with the following blog?

Long before the Spice Girls were even able to stand without falling over and crying, science-fiction and reality were starting to merge. It was a slow process, but slowly people started coming around to the idea of these two once distant things becoming one and the same: part of everyday life. Take medicine for example. Where would we be without complex widgets that fit inside the heart and keep it running? And that was years ago–So who knows where we really are now–

An article in good ol’ National Geographic highlighted this for me the other day. The article was about prosthetic limbs: gone are the days when a limb was only as good as an old bit of wood. Nowadays technology is so advanced that prosthetic limbs are capable of a number of functions, working not far off as good as a real hand. It’ll be some time before the science-fiction of modern films is caught up with, of course, but mark my words: it will happen–
