Better Ideas

In 2002 I had a terrible experience. I was employed as a web-designer at a company I’d wanted to work for for a long time, and they asked me to do a weekly blog. “Whatever you see fit to put on there that benefits our business is fine by us”, said my boss. So I took it to heart: right, I thought, I’ll make an impression! Indeed, inspiration struck me–And even better I’d had an idea which would use my artistic skills. So I went about doing sketches of all my work colleagues. They weren’t exactly kind, I have to say, but they were quite realistic, and they made me smile. I then scanned the pictures and, in secret, uploaded them to the company blog. ‘Meet the team!’ was the title.

Except my boss wasn’t too pleased with his picture. In fact, he was livid with my portrayal of his nose. My fault? Not exactly, but I lost the job. What happened to freedom of speech!?

Enigin have a better approach to freedom of speech (they have it) and would have probably not fired me and left such a bitter feeling in my mind towards bosses. You can see how free they are at the following link.

I like this. A hotel review of all things! Not exactly what you’d expect to see at such a blog, but it makes a nice change from the usual stuff, doesn’t it? I wish everyone was like these Enigin folks. And I think my old boss could learn a thing or two if he checked out this blog, not that he would. I think I put him off web-sites for life with my portrayal of his nose.
