Reading and Writing as a Hobby

When my son started going to school, I had a few minutes of free time as I waited for his bus. So, I decided I would put this time to good use. Instead of sitting there doing nothing but thinking about the next best moisturiser I can wear on my face, I would immerse myself in a good book.
As I began reading, my mind escaped to completely different worlds. Some of these worlds were no different than our own, as the stories took place in contemporary settings. Other times the worlds were more fictitious in nature. This is especially the case with fantasy or sci-fi novels, where a character’s reality was completely different than what I would EVER hope to experience in real life.
Anyway, as I continued my reading adventure, I found that I wanted to read every moment I was free. Time that I normally spent playing video games or watching television was now spent finishing up whatever novel I was working on.
Now, I want to take my reading to another level. Instead of focusing on creative content, I would like to concentrate on books that are more informative. Why? Well, I make a living writing Internet articles. So, the more knowledge I have in my head, the more potential I have for making money.
In addition, I want to be in the position where I am an author myself. And reading informative books would help me get ideas as to the types of things people are looking for. In fact, if I read enough books on a certain topic or niche, I would have enough knowledge to create my own book on that same subject. When I’m finished, I can put it on Createspace or other self-publishing sites in hopes of returning a profit.
When I learn the secrets to making money with informative books, I would move back to my original interest; creative writing. At this point I would resume reading fictitious content in the hopes I learn the secrets behind creating an engaging storyline.
In conclusion, reading has completely opened my mind. It has entertained me while making me more intellectual. And, as I change my focus to more informative content, I expect that reading will actually turn into a money-maker. In the short term, I will get more ideas for my clients’ work. And in the long term, this type of reading will open up the door to another journey– becoming a paid author for myself.
